Pycon 2009 talk: Python 2.6 and 3.0 compatibility

December 16, 2008

Yes, I will do the talk I presented at PyCon PL at Pycon US as well. Python 2.6 and 3.0 compatibility. That link apparently isn’t publicly viewable yet (but it will be later). Here is the outline:

  • Strategies to deal with incompatibility

Some discussion on different strategies and which is best for you

    • Single porting
    • Continuous porting (2to3)
    • Gradual migration
  • How did others do it?

Talks about the strategies in Zope world and what was learned from Zope 2 and Zope 3.

  • Examples of incompatibilities and how to get around them.

It’s completely possible to make practical code run under both 2.6 and 3.0 thanks to some future imports and some little python tricks.

  • The Python-incompatibility project.
