Several organisations in the Google Summer of Code seems to not have gotten as many applications as they expected. This is the case for both the Zope and Plone foundations, for example.

Come on students! With the Google Summer of Code you can write cool software and get payed in the summer. You’ll get contacts in the development community and get a good thing to add to your CV! There is loads of projects just lying and waiting for somebody to pick them up. But application deadline is tomorrow, so get your ass out the wagon NOW!

I whole-heartedly agree with your encouraging students to sign up, this is a great opportunity for students to become involved in an open source community.

By the way, one of the reasons why so few students have signed up so far might be the weak dollar. The four and a half grand are worth a mere 2.8k EUR. A decently paid summer job over two months will yield the same…

Evidently not only we had problems, but many organisations, so the deadline has been prolonged with a week. Get applying!

(We have many more applications now, why everybody waited to the last day, I don’t know).
